I am a mother of two beautiful, young children. When my first child, my baby boy was born I was so full of joy, excitement and happiness. He was absolutely perfect in every single way. I was feeding on demand, he would fall asleep in my arms, I didn’t want to ever put him down! I hadn’t really learnt very much about the importance of babies and sleep before having him so I just went with the flow, letting him nap on walks in the pushchair or snuggled up on my shoulder after a feed. Fast forward on to 6 months later, when I was still having to feed him to sleep every time he woke in the night, I was walking for miles and miles with him in the pushchair, desperately trying to get him to nap as he wouldn’t sleep for longer than 20 minutes in his cot, I was breastfeeding around the clock as I felt like he was always hungry. I was exhausted and depressed. I felt like I had lost my independence, I’d stopped doing things that made me happy and what made me feel worst of all was that I had no energy to play and laugh with my baby.
This is when I came to the decision enough was enough and decided to get some help. This is where my journey into learning and understanding about babies and children’s sleep began. Within 1 week of training, my little boy was sleeping through the night, from 7 until 7, and taking good long naps in his cot. I couldn’t believe how quickly our lives changed as a family. My son was happier and so full of life, and I was able to start living my life again, seeing friends, taking up old hobbies, and most importantly I was able to enjoy my gorgeous little boy. It was at this point I decided I desperately wanted to learn as much as I could about how babies and children sleep so that I could help other families turn their lives around in the same way we had been able to.
As a certified Baby Sleep The Night consultant, my passion for teaching and helping families in a friendly, non-judgemental way continues to grow and grow. There’s so much conflicting advice if you have a baby who doesn’t sleep well …”leave your baby to ‘cry it out’”, “don’t do anything they’ll grow out of it”…when you’re sleep deprived it’s enough to make you feel like your head is spinning. My approach is to listen to everything you have to say. I want to understand your baby and their routine, their sleep patterns and also to understand how you work as a family, you may have an older sibling who you need to work around, work commitments meaning your child spends time at a nursery or childminders. I will then create the right sleep plan so your baby can develop healthy sleeping habits. With my knowledge I will help you gain the confidence to implement the plan, making sure you understand the reason why you’re making certain changes. My own personal experience helps me to understand how completely heart-breaking it can be hearing your baby cry, so we can approach all of this in the most gentle way possible. Working together we will get your baby or child sleeping through the night.
